The ship was built by theWilhelm Holst Schiffswert located in Cranz-Neuenfelde near Hamburg. As the Newbuilding no 154 she was the last of a series of four, at that time very modern sea-going river coasters which all were constructed between 1938 to 1939. Her keel was laid in October 1939 and she was launched in February 1940.

She measured at that time 230 grt, 111 nrt with a length of 39.50m, beam 6,78m and with a draught of 2.25m in full load. Deadweight was 300 tons. The main engine was a 6 cylinder 4 stroke147kW Deutsche-werke diesel which gave a speed of 9 knots

The sister-ships were almost identical. They were the CRANZ (no 151), HEIMAT (no152), and MEMELLAND (no 153).

The Newbuilding no 154 was christened as DANZIG she entered service in April 1940 for her owner but taken immediately in use for the German Kriegsmarine and transported torpedoes most likely for the North Sea U-boat bases. She was to be used in the Operation Seelöwe, the invasion of Great Britain but this never did take place. After the war she was returned to her owner Jonny Jonas from Hamburg and started to trade in the German rivers, North Sea coastal areas as well as in the Baltic Sea

In 1950 her main deck was raised by 40 cm in orer to obtain a bigger cargo capacity.

Shortly afterwards she was renamed FRIEDA JONAS. After the deepening she measured 255 grt, 125 nrt with an increased draught to 2.65m. Her deadweight was now 370 tons.

1958 sold to Ludwig Lührs, Hamburg. Renamed UNTERELBE.

1961 in April she was lengthened in Wischhafen at J.Krooss, shipyard by 5,9m. Measured now 282 grt, 148 nrt, deadweight 430 tons. Length was now 46,70m

1963 sold to Reinhold Mau, Hamburg. The shipmanagement was taken care by the Wilhelm Tietjen from Wischhafen.

1980 sold to Hans Gregor Wasmuth, Hamburg. The management remained in the same Wischhafen based company.

1986 a new main engine from another coaster STEFAN was installed onboard: 215 kW 4 stroke Deutz RA 6 M 528 with 6 cylinders.

1987 sold to KR Britta Kroschner from Hamburg but still operated by Captain Wasmuth who traded with UNTERELBE mainly in the German coasts carrying grain and wheat.

1988 January sold to Ging Liljeberg from Borgå in Finland for 85000 DEM. Renamed as RAMONA she was sailed from Hamburg to Finland after a couple of cargoes in the Baltic Sea in early spring 1988 and started to trade in the local sand trade from Borgå to Helsinki.

1990 September sold to Runar and Torvald Gustavsson from Borgå.

1999 December sold to Jan G. Rautawaara and renamed back to UNTERELBE. The home port remains in Borgå.
